Dragon Ball Z – Final Bout Game

Dragon Ball Z: Final Bout on Genesis is one of those weird, janky fighting games from the late 90s that somehow still hooks you. You pick from a roster of DBZ characters—Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, the usual suspects—and the sprites are these chunky, low-res versions that somehow capture the anime’s energy. The controls take a minute to get used to (good luck pulling off a Kamehameha on your first try), but once you get the timing down, throwing energy blasts and trading punches feels surprisingly satisfying.
It’s not the deepest fighter out there, and the AI can be brutal in later fights, but there’s something charming about how over-the-top it all is. The stages are destructible, the special moves flash like crazy, and if you’ve ever wanted to recreate that "THIS ISN’T EVEN MY FINAL FORM" energy, this game delivers. Just don’t expect a polished modern experience—it’s pure nostalgia with all the rough edges intact.
If you grew up with DBZ or just love retro fighting games, it’s worth a few rounds for the sheer ridiculousness.
