Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine is one of those Sega Genesis puzzlers that looks cute but will absolutely wreck you if you’re not careful. It’s basically Puyo Puyo with a Sonic skin—instead of blobs, you’re dropping these weird little beans, matching colors to clear them before they pile up to the top.
The first few levels trick you into thinking it’s easy, but then Robotnik starts laughing at you from the corner of the screen while his bean patterns get faster and nastier. The music’s got that classic Genesis synth sound, all bouncy and chaotic, which somehow makes the panic of a near-full screen even worse (in a good way).
Honestly, half the fun is watching the little bean guys get zapped when you clear a chain—they make this ridiculous face before disappearing. It’s simple, but the AI gets brutal fast, especially if you’re playing against a friend. Just don’t blame me when you lose track of time trying to beat Robotnik’s smug grin.
