I first played Dr. Robotnik's Creature Capture on the Sega Genesis, a game released in 1994 by Sega. It came out during a time when the Genesis library was full of experimental titles, and this one definitely stood apart from the usual Sonic fare. You don't play as Sonic at all, which was a surprise back then.

You control a small, unnamed robot sent by Dr. Robotnik to capture creatures across several single-screen levels. Your main goal is to trap all the bouncing, floating animals in each stage before a timer runs out. The core mechanics involve placing blocks to corral the creatures and then activating a capture device once they are contained. You have to be careful, though, because if you touch any of the creatures, you lose a life. The pacing is methodical, almost like a puzzle, but the difficulty comes from the creatures' unpredictable movement patterns. It feels like a tense game of strategy where one wrong move can ruin your careful plan.
