Double Dragon V is... weird. After four games of classic beat 'em up action, they suddenly pivoted to a Street Fighter clone for the Genesis. You still play as Billy and Jimmy Lee, but now you're in one-on-one fights instead of cleaning up the streets. The sprites are huge, the special moves feel stiff, and honestly? It doesn't quite capture the magic of the arcade brawlers.
That said, there's something oddly charming about seeing the Double Dragon brothers awkwardly throwing fireballs. The roster includes some wild picks from the cartoon series (remember that?) and the soundtrack has that crunchy Genesis sound. Just don't go in expecting the classic Double Dragon experience.
It's the kind of game you play once for the novelty, then go back to playing Streets of Rage.
