About Double Dragon 3
Double Dragon 3 came out for the Sega Genesis in 1992, developed by Technos Japan Corp. It was one of many side-scrolling beat 'em ups on the system, a familiar type of game where you moved from left to right clearing out waves of enemies. This entry tried to expand on the formula with some new ideas, though it didn't always land the way you might have hoped.
You control Billy and Jimmy Lee, martial artists fighting through various global locations to recover pieces of a mystical artifact. The main objective is to defeat all the enemy gangs and their bosses across different stages. Signature mechanics include the ability to purchase new moves and weapons between levels using collected coins, and the option to switch between different playable characters you unlock as you progress. The pacing is relentless, with enemies swarming constantly, and the difficulty can feel punishing due to stiff controls and aggressive enemy patterns. It feels like a challenging, sometimes frustrating, test of your patience and reflexes.
