Doom Troopers is one of those Genesis shooters that doesn’t mess around. You pick between two soldiers—one with a rapid-fire chaingun, the other with this slow-but-brutal plasma cannon—and immediately get thrown into chaos. Venus starts off with mutants crawling out of mines, and by the time you hit Mercury, you’re dodging fireballs from some deranged wizard in a lava fortress.
The guns feel meaty, enemies explode into chunks, and the levels get wild fast. Pluto’s this frozen wasteland where you’re fighting through blizzards to blow up a reactor, and then suddenly you’re hopping dimensions to take down an alien warlord. It’s got that classic 90s over-the-top vibe where everything’s either on fire or covered in blood. If you like your run-and-gun games loud and ridiculous, this one delivers.
