Doom Troopers: The Mutant Chronicles came out for the Sega Genesis in 1995, developed by Adrenalin Entertainment. It was a time when the 16-bit consoles were full of side-scrolling action games, and this one was based on the Mutant Chronicles universe. You could pick it up and immediately recognize it as part of that mid-90s wave of sci-fi shooters.

You control one of two soldiers, each with a unique primary weapon, and fight through levels set on different planets. Your main goal is to eliminate the alien leaders on each world, moving from Venus to Mercury and then Pluto. The game uses a screen-by-screen progression system; you clear all enemies in one area before the screen scrolls to the next. You collect power-ups to upgrade your weapons and health, and the pacing is fast, with a high difficulty that demands quick reflexes. Playing it feels like a constant, hectic firefight where every new screen is a fresh challenge.
