Doom Troopers: Mutant Chronicles came out for the Sega Genesis in 1995, developed by Adrenalin Entertainment. It was part of that wave of licensed games trying to capture the look of the comic book and tabletop universe it was based on. You got a lot of these side-scrolling action games on the Genesis, and this one aimed to stand out with its dark, industrial aesthetic and two-player co-op.

You control one of two cyborg soldiers, either a close-range brawler or a long-range specialist, fighting through screen after screen of mutants and machinery. The main goal is to blast your way through each level, defeat the boss, and move on. Key mechanics include switching between two different weapon sets on the fly, which changes your attack style completely, and a two-player mode where you and a friend can tackle the hordes together. The game moves at a brisk pace, and the difficulty can be punishing, with enemies swarming from all directions. It feels like a relentless, chaotic firefight where you are constantly managing your position and your limited arsenal.
