Donald in Maui Mallard is one of those weird, charming Sega Genesis gems where Disney meets Indiana Jones—if Indy wore a floral shirt and quacked. You play as Donald Duck moonlighting as a detective (because why not?), but the second you put on that goofy Maui Mallard disguise, things get surprisingly intense. The first level throws you straight into jungle ruins with booby traps, tiki enemies, and this weirdly satisfying boomerang throw that arcs just right.
The controls take a minute to click—jumping feels a little floaty at first, but once you get the hang of wall-kicks and ducking under spears, it’s weirdly addictive. And the soundtrack? Pure 90s Sega cheese, all bongos and synth melodies that somehow work. Later levels get brutal with lava pits and disappearing platforms, but the checkpoints are merciful. Honestly, half the fun is just seeing how many Hawaiian shirts Donald can rip through in a single playthrough.
It’s not the deepest platformer, but there’s something about the sheer audacity of a duck detective adventure that still holds up.
