Dai Makaimura—or "Ghouls 'n Ghosts" if you grew up with the Western release—is one of those games that looks gorgeous but will absolutely wreck you. You play as Arthur, a knight in tin-can armor who moves like he’s wading through molasses, and the second you start, demons swarm you from every direction. The first level throws flying zombies, fire-breathing plants, and these little red devils that dive at you like kamikaze pilots. Good luck.

The art holds up surprisingly well—gloomy castles, twisted forests, all that good gothic horror stuff. And the music? Haunting in the best way. But man, the difficulty is brutal. You die in two hits, and your armor flies off after the first one, leaving you in heart-patterned boxers. The game knows it’s mean, too—halfway through, it laughs at you and sends you back to the beginning. Classic Capcom troll move.

If you’re into retro masochism or just love the Ghosts 'n Goblins series, this is peak Genesis-era suffering. Just don’t throw your controller.
