Crude Buster is one of those classic beat 'em ups that feels like it was made for late-night couch co-op. You pick from a couple of burly dudes (or gals—there’s a wrestler lady who hits like a truck) and just start wailing on waves of goons in that satisfying, slightly janky Genesis way. The first level throws you right into a dingy city street, and within seconds you’re suplexing dudes into trash cans.
What I love is how weighty the punches feel—there’s this crunchy sound effect when you land a good hit that never gets old. And yeah, the graphics are pixelated as hell, but in that charming early '90s way where every enemy has these exaggerated, cartoony grimaces. Pro tip: grab the baseball bat when you see it. Trust me.
It’s not the deepest fighter out there, but that’s kind of the point. You jump in, mash buttons, and laugh when your friend accidentally elbows you in the back during a combo. If you’ve got a buddy around, it’s a dumb, loud, nostalgic blast.
