About Crayon Shin-chan - Arashi O Yobu Enji (japan)

I picked up Crayon Shin-chan: Arashi o Yobu Enji on the Sega Mega Drive back in 1993. It was developed by Bandai, a company known for its tie-in games, and it fit right in with the platformers of that era. You don't see many games based on this particular anime outside of Japan, so it always felt like a curious find for a Sega Genesis owner.

You control Shin-chan, the little kid with the red shirt and yellow hat, running and jumping through suburban neighborhoods and other everyday locations. The main goal is simply to get to the end of each stage, which scrolls from left to right. A couple of things stand out: you can pick up and throw various objects you find, like balls or other toys, to hit enemies. You also have a life bar, so you can take a few hits before you lose a life. The pacing is fairly brisk, and the difficulty is manageable, not too punishing for a younger player. It feels like a straightforward, lighthearted romp through a cartoon world.
