Crack Down came out for the Sega Genesis in 1990, developed and published by Sega. It was part of that early wave of action games on the system, a time when developers were figuring out how to make the most of the hardware. You get a straightforward, no frills presentation that feels very much of its era.

You control one of two armored agents, moving screen by screen through maze-like industrial complexes. Your main goal is to find and destroy the central computer in each stage, but the place is crawling with guards and automated defenses. Your character can shoot in eight directions, which gives you a decent range of fire, and you can also plant timed bombs to clear out clusters of enemies or destroy certain walls. The pacing is relentless; enemies respawn quickly, and you are almost always under pressure. Navigating the tight corridors while managing your limited bombs and firepower makes for a tense, methodical experience.
