About Cool Spot
Cool Spot came out for the Sega Genesis in 1993, published by Virgin Games. It was a time when mascot platformers were everywhere, and this one stood out because you played as the actual 7 Up logo. The idea was strange, but it fit right in with the era's trend of turning consumer products into video game heroes.
You control Spot, a red dot with sunglasses, navigating through vibrant levels like a beach or a toy-filled bedroom. Your main goal is to rescue your fellow Spot buddies trapped in glass bottles. You move screen by screen, hopping on platforms and bouncing off umbrellas and beach balls. Spot attacks by shooting bubbles from his finger, which you use to pop enemy balloons and clear obstacles. The game requires precise jumping and quick shooting, with a difficulty that gets noticeably tougher in later stages. It feels like a fast-paced test of coordination set to a surprisingly catchy soundtrack.
