Congo – The Game (beta) Game

Okay, so Congo – The Game (Beta) is one of those weird, janky-but-charming Sega Genesis titles that feels like it got lost in time. You start off in this dense jungle with pixelated vines everywhere, and within seconds, some screeching monkey thing is lunging at you. The controls take a minute to get used to—your guy moves like he’s wading through mud, but somehow that adds to the tension.
The soundtrack slaps, though. There’s this repetitive but weirdly hypnotic jungle beat that gets stuck in your head. And the levels? They’re brutal in that classic '90s way—hidden pits, enemies popping out of nowhere, and treasures tucked behind annoyingly placed obstacles. It’s not polished, but if you grew up renting random movie tie-in games, this one’s got that same chaotic energy.
Honestly, half the fun is laughing at how ridiculous some of the enemy designs are. That gorilla with glowing eyes? Chef’s kiss. Just don’t expect it to hold your hand.
