Comix Zone is one of those Genesis games that still looks insane decades later—like someone ripped the pages straight out of a grungy '90s comic and made them playable. You’re Sketch, this artist who gets pulled into his own sketchbook, and suddenly you’re punching mutants and dodging spikes while the panels shift around you. The whole thing feels like flipping through an issue where every page wants to kill you.

What really sticks with me is how the game moves. You’ll jump between panels mid-combo, tear through speech bubbles to heal, and even rip up parts of the environment to throw at enemies. It’s brutal, but in that satisfying way where every punch has weight. Just don’t expect it to go easy on you—some of those later levels feel like the artist scribbled extra enemies in the margins just to mess with you.

If you’ve got a Genesis collecting dust somewhere, this one’s worth blowing the cartridge off. Comix Zone is the kind of game that makes you wish more studios took risks like this today.
