College Football USA '96 is that weird middle child between Bill Walsh College Football and the later NCAA Football games. It's got that classic Sega Genesis vibe—chunky sprites, simple but satisfying gameplay, and just enough depth to keep you hooked for a season or two.
You pick your team (go with Florida State if you want to dominate early), call basic plays, and watch your pixelated players plow through defenses. The animations are janky by today’s standards, but there’s something charming about how the QB’s throwing motion looks like he’s hurling a brick. And yeah, the commentary is basically just a guy yelling "TOUCHDOWN!" but it works.
It’s not as polished as the later NCAA games, but if you miss that mid-90s football sim feel, this one’s a solid time capsule.
