About Championship Pool
Championship Pool came out for the Sega Genesis in 1993, published by Mindscape. It was part of that wave of sports simulations on 16-bit consoles, a straightforward attempt to bring a cue sport into the home. You did not get a lot of flashy pool games back then, so this one had its own quiet spot on the shelf.
You control a cursor to aim your shots, adjusting the power and spin on the cue ball before taking each one. The main goal is to clear the table of your assigned balls, either stripes or solids, and then sink the 8-ball to win the frame. A couple of its defining mechanics are the detailed aiming guide that shows the ball's path and the ability to apply English, putting side spin on the cue ball to position it for the next shot. The game moves at a deliberate, thoughtful pace, and the computer opponents provide a decent challenge, punishing sloppy play. It feels like a patient, methodical test of your planning and precision.
