About Cars - Race-o-rama (us)(suxxors)
I picked up Cars: Race-O-Rama for the Nintendo DS back in 2009. It was developed by Incinerator Studios, and it came out during that period when the DS was flooded with movie tie-ins. This one was squarely aimed at fans of the Cars films, offering another chance to hang out with Lightning McQueen and the gang.
You control Lightning McQueen, or sometimes other characters from the films, in a series of races and arena battles. The main goal is to win events, earn new parts, and unlock different game modes. A couple of the key mechanics are performing stunts to fill a boost meter and using that boost for a temporary speed advantage. You also collect washers scattered around the tracks to purchase upgrades for your car. The racing isn't particularly difficult, which makes it accessible for younger players, but the controls can feel a bit loose on the handheld. It feels like a straightforward arcade racer built for quick sessions.
