Captain America and the Avengers came out for the Sega Genesis in 1992, published by Data East. It was part of that wave of comic book games that tried to bring the arcade experience home, and it felt like a direct port of the coin-op cabinet. On the Genesis, it was a solid attempt to capture that chaotic, four-player action, even if you were usually playing with just a friend on the couch.

You pick from four heroes: Captain America, Iron Man, Vision, or Hawkeye. The goal is to fight through screen after screen of Hydra agents and robots to rescue your captured teammates. You punch, throw your shield or repulsor rays, and use a special screen clearing attack that costs health. The levels are linear, moving from left to right, with occasional vehicle shooting sections that break up the pacing. It's a difficult game; enemies swarm you constantly, and your attacks can feel a bit slow to start. Playing it feels like a relentless brawl where you're always managing your space and that precious health bar.
