I remember picking up the Sega Genesis version of Captain America and The Avengers. It was a home port of the Data East arcade game, released by Mindscape, and it felt like a solid attempt to bring that cooperative brawler action to the console. In an era crowded with side-scrollers, this one stood out simply for letting you play as these specific heroes with their own moves.

You control one of four Avengers: Captain America, Iron Man, Vision, or Hawkeye. Your goal is to fight through waves of enemies across various stages to stop Red Skull. The gameplay is straightforward; you move screen by screen, punching and using your character's special projectile, like Cap's shield or Hawkeye's arrows. Between the standard beat 'em up sections, the game shifts into horizontal shooter levels where you fly the Quinjet, which breaks up the pacing. It's known for being quite difficult, with aggressive enemies and limited continues. Controlling these characters and seeing their distinct attacks in action makes the challenge feel worthwhile.
