I remember picking up A Bug's Life for the Sega Genesis back in 1999. It was developed by Traveller's Tales, and it came out late in the console's life, a time when you saw a lot of movie tie-ins. This one was based on the Pixar film, and it felt like a familiar part of that era's library, a straightforward attempt to bring the story to the 16-bit screen.

You control Flik, the inventive ant, through a series of side-scrolling levels. Your main goal is to gather food and supplies for your colony while fending off threats from Hopper's grasshopper gang. The gameplay involves a lot of jumping across platforms, using seeds from a berry shooter to stun enemies, and tossing clumps of dirt to break obstacles. You explore areas screen by screen, often backtracking to use new items you find, like a leaf that lets you glide over gaps. The pacing can be uneven, with some tricky jumps and enemy patterns that require a few tries to get right. It feels like a competent, if sometimes challenging, platformer from that period.
