I first played Bubsy on the Sega Genesis back in 1993, a game published by Accolade. It was one of many mascot platformers trying to capture some of Sonic's speed during that era. You control Bubsy, a wisecracking bobcat, on a mission to stop aliens from stealing the world's yarn supply. The premise was simple, a straightforward run and jump adventure.

You guide Bubsy through side scrolling levels, jumping on platforms and collecting balls of yarn. Your main goal is simply to reach the end of each stage without dying. The game is known for its high running speed and a signature glide move performed by jumping and holding the button. You also have to avoid enemies, which often feels difficult because a single hit means instant death. The pacing is fast, but the level design can be unforgiving, with cheap enemy placements and bottomless pits appearing without much warning. Playing it feels like a constant, frantic scramble to react in time.
