About Brian Lara Cricket (march 1995)
Brian Lara Cricket came out for the Sega Genesis, known as the Mega Drive in some places, in March 1995. It was developed by Audiogenic and published by Codemasters, arriving at a time when cricket games were still finding their footing on home consoles. This was the first game to carry Brian Lara's name, released just after his record breaking 375 run innings, and it aimed to capture that excitement for 16 bit players.
You control a team of eleven cricketers, taking turns to bat and bowl against a computer or human opponent. The main objective is straightforward: score more runs than the other side. Batting involves timing your button presses to hit the ball into gaps, while bowling lets you select the type of delivery and aim its line and length. Fielding is mostly automatic, but you can manually move fielders between overs. The game moves at a deliberate pace, especially in longer matches, and the difficulty can be sharp; mistimed shots often lead to catches. Playing it feels like a genuine test of patience and skill.
