About Brian Lara Cricket (june 1995)
Brian Lara Cricket came out for the Sega Genesis in 1995, developed by Audiogenic and published by Codemasters. It was one of the better cricket games available on the system at the time, offering a more detailed simulation than many of its predecessors. The game captured the mid-90s era of cricket, featuring real players and teams, which was a significant step up for sports titles on the platform.
You control a cricket team, managing both batting and bowling. The main objective is to outscore your opponent or bowl them out within a limited number of overs. Batting involves timing your button presses to hit the ball into gaps, while bowling requires you to select a delivery type and aim it precisely. Fielding is mostly automatic, but you can manually position fielders between balls. The game's pace can feel slow if you are not familiar with cricket, but the strategic depth in setting fields and choosing bowlers keeps it engaging. It feels satisfying to successfully defend a low total or to chase down a target with a well-timed six.
