I first played Bram Stoker's Dracula on the Sega Genesis back in 1993. It was developed by Psygnosis, and it felt like a lot of other action platformers from that era, trying to capture the look of the Coppola film. You control Jonathan Harker, and your main goal is straightforward: fight your way through Transylvania to defeat Dracula. The game is a side-scroller where you move from screen to screen, using a sword as your primary weapon. You also get a cross that acts like a limited-range projectile, which is essential for dealing with some of the tougher enemies.

The levels are linear but filled with enemies and environmental hazards, like bottomless pits and swinging axes. You collect items for health and extra lives, and the pacing is relentless; it's a difficult game where you die frequently and have to memorize enemy patterns. The combat is simple, mostly just slashing with your sword, but the challenge comes from the sheer number of foes and the precise jumps required. Playing it feels like a constant, tense struggle against the game's mechanics and level design.
