About Blaster Master 2 (beta)
Blaster Master 2 was released for the Sega Genesis, though it was developed and published without the involvement of the original creators. It arrived during a time when the Genesis library was filled with ambitious action games, and this entry attempted to carry the series forward on a new platform.
You control Jason, who pilots the armored vehicle SOPHIA III on the surface and explores on foot inside caverns and buildings. The main goal is to navigate large, interconnected areas, find upgrades for your vehicle and weaponry, and defeat bosses to progress. Signature mechanics include switching between the tank's overhead view for exploration and the side scrolling perspective for on foot combat and platforming. You collect power ups to enhance your blaster and vehicle capabilities, and the pacing is often methodical as you search for the correct path. The difficulty can be unforgiving, with precise jumps and aggressive enemies testing your patience. Playing it feels like a rough but earnest attempt to translate a classic formula to a different console.
