Blades of Vengeance came out for the Sega Genesis in 1993, developed by Beam Software and published by Electronic Arts. It was part of that wave of side-scrolling action games that filled the shelves back then, offering a straightforward fantasy quest without much pretense.
You choose one of three characters, a warrior, an amazon, or a sorcerer, and set out to defeat the evil dragon lord Dreg. The game progresses screen by screen; you clear each area of monsters before you can move on. You have a basic sword attack and a screen-clearing special move that costs magic, plus you can find a bow for ranged combat.
