I remember picking up Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon for the Sega Genesis back in 1994. It was developed and published by a company called Ma-Ba, which wasn't one of the big names you saw every day. This was during that era when licensed anime games were a regular sight on 16-bit consoles, and this one was the Genesis's answer to the Super Famicom version.

You control Sailor Moon herself, moving from left to right through city streets and enemy bases. Your main goal is to fight off the Dark Kingdom's minions to rescue your fellow Sailor Scouts. The core gameplay is straightforward beat'em up action; you punch and kick your way through waves of enemies. Your signature move is the Moon Tiara Boomerang, which you can throw to hit distant foes. The levels are broken into distinct screens, and you progress by clearing all the enemies in one before moving to the next. The pacing is fairly quick, and the difficulty can spike with some tricky enemy placements. Playing it feels like a direct, hands-on brawl from the cartoon.
