Man, Battletoads & Double Dragon is one of those weird mashups that somehow just works. You’ve got the Double Dragon bros teaming up with the Battletoads—frog mutants who hit like trucks—and it’s exactly as chaotic as it sounds. The first level throws you right into smashing punks with exaggerated cartoon punches, and the toads’ weird stretchy limbs make everything feel extra ridiculous.
It’s got that classic arcade beat-em-up vibe, but with way more over-the-top animations. Like, one of the toads will straight-up boot a guy into the stratosphere. The Sega version’s a little smoother than the NES one, though the music’s still that crunchy Genesis sound we all either love or tolerate.
Fair warning: it’s tough as nails by the third stage, but that’s half the fun if you’ve got a buddy for co-op. Just don’t be surprised when you start yelling at the screen.
