Batman Forever on the Genesis is one of those licensed beat 'em ups that feels like it should be way cooler than it actually is. You pick Batman or Robin (Batman’s moves are slightly heavier, Robin’s a bit quicker) and punch your way through waves of thugs in neon-lit streets and underground hideouts. The sprites are big and chunky, but the controls can be a little stiff—expect to mash buttons more than you’d like.

Two-Face and Riddler pop up as bosses, and the levels try to mimic scenes from the movie, but it’s mostly just walking right and hitting dudes. There’s a weird grappling hook mechanic that never quite works right, and some stages drag on way too long. Still, if you’re a fan of the movie or just love mid-90s Batman vibes, it’s got a certain charm. Just don’t expect Arkham-level depth.
