Barney’s Hide & Seek is one of those weirdly charming Genesis games that shouldn’t work but somehow does. You basically just run around collecting stars and finding Barney’s friends—Baby Bop’s hiding in a treehouse, BJ’s behind a bush—and yeah, it’s as simple as it sounds. But there’s something oddly satisfying about the chunky pixel art and that bouncy, slightly off-key music.
It’s definitely aimed at kids, but if you grew up with the show, there’s a weird nostalgia hit to it. The controls are clunky by today’s standards (you’ll get stuck on corners), but the colors are bright, the levels are short, and honestly? It’s kind of a vibe if you’re in the right mood. Just don’t expect any deep mechanics—this is pure, sugary ’90s kid stuff.
Also, the ending screen with the whole gang cheering at you is weirdly wholesome. You’ll either love it or wonder why you just played it.
