About Bare Knuckle ? Ikari No Tetsuken ? Streets Of Rage
Bare Knuckle, known as Streets of Rage in the West, came out for the Sega Genesis in 1991. Sega developed and published it, putting it right in the thick of the console's early 90s beat 'em up boom. This was a time when having a solid co-op brawler felt almost mandatory for a home system, and this one was Sega's answer.
You pick one of three ex-cops, Axel, Blaze, or Adam, and fight through the city's crime-ridden streets. Your goal is simple: punch, kick, and throw your way to the gang's leader, Mr. X. The game moves you screen by screen, clearing out all the thugs before you can proceed. Two mechanics stand out: you can call in a screen-clearing special attack by pressing a button, a police car rolls up and unleashes a barrage, and you can pick up weapons like pipes and knives dropped by enemies. The pacing is brisk, the difficulty is stiff, especially in later stages, and enemies gang up on you relentlessly. It feels raw and immediate, a straight up brawl where every punch has weight.
