About Australian Rugby League (europe)
Australian Rugby League came out for the Sega Genesis in 1994, published by Domark. It was one of the few rugby league games you could find on the system, arriving at a time when sports titles were becoming more common but still had a certain rough charm. If you were into rugby league back then, this was pretty much your only option on the console.
You control a team of thirteen players, passing the ball laterally to find gaps in the defensive line and attempting to score tries. The main objective is to outscore your opponent within the match time. Key mechanics include a tactical kicking game for field position and the ability to perform a diving, one-on-one tackle when on defense. The game moves at a quick pace, and the computer can be surprisingly aggressive, making it difficult to break through for easy points. It feels like a straightforward arcade interpretation of the sport, where a successful breakaway run provides a genuine rush.
