Ever wanted to smash Roman soldiers as a tiny mustached Gaul? Asterix – The Power of the Gods on Genesis lets you do exactly that, with Obelix as your meat-throwing sidekick. The first thing you’ll notice is how much it feels like playing through an actual Asterix comic—bright colors, goofy animations, and those little speech bubbles popping up mid-fight.

It’s a straightforward platformer, but with some fun twists. Asterix handles like a bouncy little tank, and Obelix just bulldozes through everything (including walls, sometimes). The magic potion power-up turns you into an absolute menace for about 10 seconds—perfect for clearing out whole screens of legionnaires. And yeah, the Romans do that silly "blown into the sky" animation when you KO them, just like in the books.

Some levels drag a bit (looking at you, swamp maze), but the charm carries it. If you grew up with the comics or just love 16-bit platformers with personality, this one’s a solid time. Just don’t expect Obelix to share any of that boar he’s always eating.
