It was developed by Core Design, the same studio behind the early Tomb Raider games, which gave it a certain pedigree. This was during that era when licensed platformers were everywhere, trying to capture the magic of a comic book in 16-bit form. The game takes Asterix and Obelix on another adventure, this time to recover stolen menhirs and rescue Getafix from the Romans.

You control Asterix, and sometimes Obelix joins as a computer-controlled partner. The game is structured screen by screen; you move through forests, Roman camps, and temples, fighting legionaries with your fists or picking up temporary weapons like swords. Your main goal is to collect four pieces of a magical artifact scattered across the levels. The exploration is methodical, often requiring you to find keys or trigger switches to progress. The difficulty can be unforgiving, with precise jumps and enemies that respawn quickly. Despite the occasional frustration, there's a simple satisfaction in plowing through Roman soldiers and uncovering the next part of the map.
