About Art Of Fighting (europe)
I remember picking up Art of Fighting for the Sega Genesis in 1994, a port of SNK's arcade fighter. It was a time when the 16-bit consoles were flooded with fighting games, each trying to carve out its own space. This one came from the same company that made Fatal Fury, so it had a certain pedigree right out of the gate.
You control one of two brothers, Ryo or Robert, as you fight through the streets of South Town to rescue Ryo's kidnapped sister. The main objective is straightforward: beat every opponent in a one-on-one match to progress. Its signature mechanics include a spirit gauge that depletes as you perform special moves; if it runs too low, your attacks become weak. You can also taunt your opponent to drain their spirit gauge, which adds a psychological layer to the fights. The game is notoriously difficult, with aggressive AI and a life bar that doesn't fully recover between rounds. Landing a powerful Desperation Move when your health is critical feels like a genuine, hard-won reversal.
