Man, Altered Beast takes me back. You start off as this kinda scrawny dude in a toga, punching zombies in a graveyard—then bam, you grab these floating orbs and suddenly you're a hulking werewolf with claws that shred everything. The transformations are still so satisfying, even now.
The whole vibe is this weird mix of Greek mythology and 80s arcade cheese. You’re rescuing Athena, sure, but mostly you’re just smashing through levels as increasingly ridiculous beasts. The dragon form’s fire breath feels OP until you hit those later stages where everything’s trying to gank you at once.
It’s janky by modern standards (good luck with those hitboxes), but there’s something about the way the music kicks in when you transform that just works. If you’ve got nostalgia for the Genesis era, this one’s a trip down memory lane—just don’t expect it to go easy on you.
