Alien 3 came out for the Sega Genesis in 1992, published by Acclaim Entertainment. It was part of that wave of movie tie-ins that tried to capture the grim atmosphere of the films, and it arrived when the 16-bit consoles were really pushing the limits of what action games could look and sound like. You got this one hoping it would feel like being in that universe, not just another licensed product.

You play as Ellen Ripley, and your mission is straightforward: rescue the colonists and eliminate the alien infestation before a timer counts down to detonation. The game is a side-scrolling action platformer where you move screen by screen through the industrial complex. You start with a pulse rifle, but you find other weapons like flamethrowers and grenade launchers to help you fight. The aliens come from every direction; they crawl along the floors and ceilings, and some even burst out of vents. It is a difficult game. The pacing is relentless, and you die often, learning the patterns through repetition. Navigating the maze-like levels while managing your limited ammunition and health creates a constant tension. Playing it feels like a desperate, exhausting struggle for survival.
