Man, Alex Kidd – Cheongong Maseong takes me back. It’s one of those classic Sega Genesis platformers where you’re immediately thrown into this weird, colorful world full of floating islands and enemies that look like they escaped from a Saturday morning cartoon.
You play as Alex Kidd, who’s basically Sega’s answer to Mario back in the day, except he’s got this weird rock-paper-scissors gimmick for boss fights. The first time I ran into one, I had no idea what was happening—just suddenly had to pick between three symbols while some giant monster loomed over me. It’s janky in that charming, "this was made in the '80s" kind of way.
The levels are short but punishing if you’re not careful—expect to die a lot to random pits or enemies popping out of nowhere. But there’s something satisfying about nailing the timing on those jumps or finally beating a boss after five tries. The music’s got that classic chiptune energy too, the kind that sticks in your head for hours.
If you’re into retro games, this is pure nostalgia fuel. Just don’t expect modern polish—it’s rough around the edges, but that’s part of the charm.
