I first played Aladdin on the Sega Genesis back in 1993, a release from Virgin Games. It was one of those Disney movie tie-ins that felt like a big deal at the time, sitting right alongside other platformers on the system. The graphics, especially the animation, really stood out compared to a lot of what was available.

You control Aladdin through a series of side-scrolling levels, starting in the marketplace and eventually making your way to the palace and the Cave of Wonders. Your main goal is to rescue Princess Jasmine from Jafar. You use a scimitar to fight off guards and bats, and you spend a lot of time jumping between platforms, avoiding traps, and collecting red gems to earn extra lives. The game moves at a pretty quick pace, and some of the later platforming sections can be quite unforgiving. It feels responsive and fluid when you get the timing right, but a single mistimed jump can send you back to the start of a tricky section. Playing it is a mix of enjoying the smooth character movement and bracing for the next difficult jump.
