Air Diver came out for the Sega Genesis in 1990, published by Asmik Ace Entertainment. It was part of that early wave of console flight sims, trying to bring a more technical kind of flying experience to a system better known for arcade action. You don't see many people talk about it now, but at the time it was an interesting attempt to do something different on the hardware.

You pilot a futuristic attack helicopter through a series of missions, viewed from a first-person cockpit perspective. Your main job is to navigate through canyons and over open terrain, locating and destroying enemy installations and aircraft. The signature mechanics involve managing your helicopter's systems, like switching between different weapon types and monitoring your fuel and damage levels, all while navigating a somewhat clunky radar display. The pacing is slow and deliberate; you spend a lot of time just flying to your objectives, and the difficulty comes from the unforgiving controls and the need for precise navigation to avoid crashing into the landscape. It feels like a constant, tense struggle against the machine itself just to complete a mission.
