About Aero Blasters (japan)
Aero Blasters came out for the Sega Genesis in 1991, developed by Kaneko. It was part of that wave of shooters on the system, a time when you could find a new spaceship game on the shelf almost every month.
You pilot a lone starfighter through seven stages, each with a massive boss waiting at the end. Your main job is to survive the relentless enemy formations and screen-filling attacks. The ship has a standard shot and a screen-clearing bomb, but its signature feature is the adjustable speed control. You're constantly tapping the button to switch between slow, precise movement and fast dodging, which becomes second nature during the hectic bullet patterns. The game is notoriously difficult, with aggressive enemies and level designs that demand quick reflexes. Navigating the tight corridors of the fifth stage, for instance, requires careful speed management to avoid scraping the walls. Playing Aero Blasters feels like a constant, tense negotiation between offense and survival.
