Okay, so Adventures of Mighty Max is one of those weird 90s platformers based on a cartoon nobody remembers—but it’s actually kinda fun once you get past the jank. You play as this kid Max who wears a magic baseball cap (because why not?) that lets him hop between different worlds. One minute you’re jumping over lava pits, the next you’re dodging robots in some futuristic city.
The controls are a little stiff—typical Genesis-era platforming—but the level designs are surprisingly creative. Some stages have this cool day/night gimmick where enemies change behavior, and there’s even a weird underwater zone where your cap turns into a fish. Yeah, it makes zero sense, but that’s part of the charm.
Just don’t expect it to hold your hand. You’ll die a lot figuring out the weird hitboxes, and the music loops get annoying fast. Still, if you’re into obscure 16-bit stuff, it’s a neat little time capsule.
