Advanced Daisenryaku is one of those old-school war sims where you actually have to think before moving your tanks—mess up, and you'll watch your entire infantry division get wiped out by some sneaky artillery placement. The maps are deceptively simple at first glance, but positioning matters way more than you'd expect. I remember my first playthrough, sending bombers straight into anti-air like an idiot.

You get all the classic units—infantry, battleships, fighters—but the real fun is in how they interact. Tanks chew through cities, but get wrecked by bombers unless you pair them with mobile anti-air. The AI isn't messing around either; leave a weak flank exposed, and the computer will punish you for it. No hand-holding here.

It's definitely a slow burn compared to modern strategy games, but there's something satisfying about carefully pushing your front line forward turn by turn. Just don't expect flashy cutscenes—this is pure, crunchy tactics from the Genesis era. Still holds up if you've got the patience for it.
