About Action 52 (unl)
Action 52 came out for the Sega Genesis in 1993, a cartridge published by Active Enterprises that tried to bundle 52 different games into one. It arrived during a time when compilations were a straightforward way to offer variety, but this one stood out for reasons players quickly discovered. The collection is now infamous for being plagued with programming bugs, and a contest tied to one of its included games was rendered meaningless because of a glitch. Much of the soundtrack was also plagiarized from other sources, adding to its troubled reputation.
You control a different character in each game, from a spaceship pilot to a superhero, with the main objective simply to survive and progress through short, often broken stages. Signature mechanics include basic running and jumping, simple shooting, and navigating screen by screen through repetitive environments. The pacing is erratic, and the difficulty frequently comes from unfair enemy placement or controls that do not respond as expected. Playing it feels like wrestling with a collection of unfinished ideas that never quite function as intended.
