Zoids Saga came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2001, published by Tomy. It was part of that early wave of GBA RPGs, a time when developers were figuring out how to translate bigger console experiences onto the small screen. You got a lot of these sci-fi themed games back then, but this one stood out because it was directly tied to the Zoids model kits and anime, which already had a following.

In the game, you control a pilot who commands a Zoid, a large mechanical animal, from a top-down perspective. Your main goal is to explore the world, fight in turn-based battles, and uncover a conspiracy. Signature mechanics include piloting different Zoids you find or win, customizing them with various weapons and armor, and engaging in strategic combat where positioning and Zoid type matter. The pacing is deliberate, with a fair amount of grinding needed to upgrade your machine for tougher fights. It feels like managing your own personal war machine, making each new part you find a small victory.
