Zoids: Legacy came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2004, published by Tomy. It was part of that era where you could get a surprisingly deep RPG experience on a handheld, with a whole world built around piloting mechanical animals. You control a pilot assembling a team of Zoids, and your main goal is to travel across the planet, recruiting new pilots and their machines while uncovering a larger conflict. The core loop involves exploring towns and the world map, engaging in turn-based battles where you target specific parts on enemy Zoids to disable them. A major part of the game is collecting and customizing a huge roster of Zoids, swapping out weapons and armor to build your ideal squad. The pacing can be slow due to random encounters, and some of the later battles require careful preparation. It feels like managing a persistent garage of complex machines, where every new part or Zoid you find opens up another tactical possibility.
