Zillion (japan, Europe) (en,ja) Game

Zillion on the Sega Master System feels like a hidden Metroid cousin—same kind of side-scrolling exploration, but with a weirdly cool '80s anime vibe. You play as JJ, sneaking through this massive underground base on Planet X, hunting down five floppy disks (because of course it’s the '80s). The controls take a second to get used to—your gun fires diagonally, which threw me off at first—but once it clicks, blasting robots while platforming between elevators and hidden passages feels surprisingly smooth.
What’s neat is how the base loops back on itself, so you’re constantly unlocking shortcuts or stumbling into areas you couldn’t reach before. The music’s got that classic Sega synth punch, too. Just watch out for the respawning enemies—they’ll swarm you if you linger too long in one spot.
