Zaxxon 3-D is one of those weird, ambitious Sega Master System ports that tried to push the hardware—this time with actual 3D. Yeah, you needed that funky SegaScope headset thing to see the effect, but if you had it, the game suddenly turned into this weirdly immersive isometric shooter where you’re dodging turrets and fuel tanks in what feels like a floating maze. The arcade original was already tough, but the 3D version somehow makes those diagonal shots even harder to judge. Classic Sega—always trying to make you buy extra gear.

Without the 3D glasses, it’s just a slightly smoother-looking Zaxxon, but hey, at least the Master System’s version had better colors than the arcade’s weird green-on-black palette. Still unforgiving as ever, though.
