Zapper: One Wicked Cricket! came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2002, developed by Atomic Planet Entertainment. It was part of that wave of platformers that filled the GBA library, a straightforward action game starring a cricket with an attitude. You control Zapper, a cricket who fights using a built-in electrical charge. The main goal is to rescue your little brother, Zipper, who has been kidnapped. You move through levels screen by screen, clearing enemies and solving light puzzles to progress. Your primary attack is a short-range zapping tongue, which you use to defeat foes and also to interact with objects, like charging batteries to open doors. You also collect Dream Seeds, the main currency and progression item, which are often hidden or require a bit of exploration to find. The game can be challenging, with some precise platforming and enemy patterns to learn. Playing it feels like a quick, energetic scramble through a vibrant and sometimes dangerous backyard.
