About Yu Yu Hakusho - Spirit Detective (u)(mode7)
Yu Yu Hakusho: Spirit Detective came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2003, developed by Sensory Sweep and published by Atari. It was part of that wave of anime-to-game adaptations on the GBA, aiming to capture the show's early storylines in a portable format.
You play as Yusuke Urameshi, a teenage spirit detective investigating supernatural cases. The game mixes side-scrolling exploration through city streets and forests with one-on-one fighting sequences against demons. Your main goal is to solve a series of cases, which involves talking to characters, finding key items, and battling a roster of enemies from the anime. Combat is straightforward; you punch, kick, and use special spirit gun attacks. The pacing is fairly linear, moving you from one mission to the next, and the difficulty can spike during boss fights. It feels like a condensed, hands-on version of the show's first major arc.
